Folk Music Canada Conference

I’ve been home less than 48 hours from the Folk Music Canada conference.  It was my first time doing something of this magnitude.  

I’m still trying to come back down to earth.  

I was one of nine performers who got a private showcase in the Alberta Room.  For the first time in my life, I met Tom Coxworth. Then I met Vic Close from Fish Creek Concerts.  And Hugh Briggs from the Sleeping Giant Folk Music Society … and then Don Amero, Dave Von Bieker, and Martin Kerr, and they came to this small town western canada girls showcase.  My four songs to show who I am, and what I’m about.   And my best friend in the world came and performed with me … Carla Olive.  

All because the amazing Leanne Lightfoot told me that I should be at the Folk Music Canada conference … and Jenny Allen who somehow saw to it that I had a spot.  

And so many more new friends have been made … Bill and Bettyjo, Kathy, Jamie you all blew my mind.  

If you know me, you know.  So much of me has always believed that this is out of reach.  I’m ok with the fact that I’ve always felt like that.  I’ve always worked my day job to look after my family.  My better half, Marilyn, had to retire because of her health and so here we are.  

I believe wholeheartedly in reason, season, and time.  If I never get opportunity because of the FMO opportunity, then that is life and life isn’t by design.  But whatever is within my abilities, I will continue to work for and towards that next opportunity.  

For 51 years I’ve written songs. Somethings changed in me. I’ve figured something out.  

I pray every day that my work will continue to show me the way. 

I have so many friends that come to my shows time and time, and time again.  I want you to come to a bigger show some day … I want to give you that, for the faith and support you’ve always offered me.  

Life has never been easy.  It’s been a hard cumbersome road, and maybe that’s where this writing is all coming from, this new voice I’ve somehow found is because of my persistence to dig deeper to find what it is I’ve been looking for my entire life.  

I have a new record coming out, and a music video.  

I’ll keep you updated. 

There will be a big party.  

I’m the lucky one.
